While Google is essential for optimizing your web presence, there are interesting alternatives. This is particularly the case with the Yahoo Bing Network, a direct competitor to the Mountain View giant.
You may have noticed over the past few months ads praising the qualities of the Bing Ads program on Google results pages, with the added bonus of a small coupon of 50 euros offered to encourage you to sign up.
Through Bing Ads, Microsoft has indeed decided to shift into second gear by adopting a much more aggressive strategy vis-à-vis its main competitor and in particular its advertising network Adwords. And the American giant intends to rely on the alliance of the two search engines – Yahoo and Bing therefore – to counter Google and attract Internet users and companies wishing to do on page seo service business on other platforms.

However, the figures do not work in the Bing – Yahoo duo’s favour at all. In December 2014, the two engines combined had barely managed to reach the 5% market share mark in France (2.4% for Bing, 2.6% for Yahoo), while Google posted the insolent figure of 94%…

Towards a reversal of trends?
While the Mountain View giant has nothing to worry about in the European market, things are quite different in the United States.
According to the StatCounter website , the latest figures are unfavourable to Google on its own territory. With 75.2%, the market share in the United States is at its lowest level in 7 years. Over the same period, Yahoo recorded an increase of 3%, going from 7.4% to 10.4% compared to the previous year. Behind this progression, we must also see the signing of the agreement between Firefox and Yahoo, making the latter the default search engine on Mozilla's browser, to the detriment of Google.
The trend is also upward for Bing, which sees its market share increase from 10.9% to 12.5%.

The mobile search sector (tablets and smartphones) also represents enormous potential for Bing and Yahoo.
Not so much on the market share occupied by smartphones using the Windows Phone OS, which continues to plummet, but on the possibility that Apple will not renew its agreement with Google to make it the default search engine for Safari. The Yahoo Bing network intends to rush into this gap and convince Safari, which still represents 47% of mobile web traffic in the United States.
In any case, 2015 is shaping up to be a crucial year for the major players in web search. Watch this space...
